After graduating from Damascus University in 1978, Dr. Hawasli immigrated to the United States of America to obtain higher education in Surgery. A four-time American Board certified. Voted numerous times as "Top Doc" by HOUR MAGAZINE in the Unites States of America. In his home state Michigan, USA, his accomplishments include being the first to perform many laparoscopic procedures such as Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in 1989, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in 2007, laparoscopic LINX procedure for reflux especially after Sleeve Gastrectomy in 2014. He started the first Minimally Invasive Surgical Fellowship Program in 2003. Dr. Hawasli has a vast experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery and had performed over 15,000 procedures in laparoscopic and endocrine surgery for benign and oncologic conditions. He has been involved in research and has been on the teaching faculty at St. John Hospital & Medical Center since 1985 with many publications. Dr. Hawasli had lectured and proctored many surgeons in performing advanced laparoscopic and bariatric procedures both in the United States and abroad.
